(7.5s) Polarizers can be used to measure changes in magnetic fields, temperature, molecular structure, chemical interactions, and acoustic vibrations. Polarizers can be utilized in imaging applications to reduce glare and hot spots, enhance contrast, and perform stress evaluation. Linear polarizing filters will transmit a single axis of polarization only. (1.1s) Birefringent materials such as calcite, quartz, and magnesium fluoride are used to alter the polarization state of the incident light. (5.8s)
