TECHSPEC® Germanium (Ge) Windows는 가장 최신의 3가지 AR 코팅 옵션 이용 가능: mid-infrared 용도를 위한 3 - 5μm, 광대역 멀티 스펙트럼 용도를 위한 3 - 12μm, 또는 thermal imaging을 위한 8 - 12μm. 게르마늄 윈도우의 굴절률이 높은 관계로(2 - 14μm 대역에서 대략 4.0) 관심 대역에서의 충분한 투과율을 확보하려면 AR 코팅은 필수입니다. 게르마늄은 열폭주(thermal runaway) 현상이 나타날 수 있는데 이는 온도가 상승하면 투과율이 낮아짐을 의미합니다. 이로 인해 이 게르마늄 윈도우는 100°C 미만에서 사용해야 합니다. 무게에 민감한 시스템용으로 설계할 때는 게르마늄의 고밀도(5.33 g/cm³)를 고려해야 합니다. 게르마늄의 Knoop 경도(780)는 플루오르화 마그네슘이 갖는 경도의 거의 두 배로서 튼튼한 광학 부품이 필요한 적외선 용도로 이상적입니다.

Germanium Optics Handling and Cleaning Guidelines

Germanium optics require special handling and cleaning procedures. Always wear gloves during handling to prevent contamination, and wash hands afterward. Avoid contact between Germanium dust and the eyes, skin, or clothing. When not in use, store optics sealed and covered at temperatures between 20°C and 25°C. Do not expose them to temperatures exceeding 100°C when in use.

If Germanium dust is present, take the following precautions:
- Wear safety glasses to protect eyes.
- Use a dust mask or face mask to avoid inhalation.
- Wear gloves to prevent skin contact.

Wrap Germanium optics in a lens cloth or pouch and seal in a container when not in use.
Germanium is brittle and heavy — always place it on soft surfaces and avoid dropping it.
